While I am in here, did you want to migrate to Comic Easel as well? .. The only issue that will pose is that you will have to relearn how to post comics up ;/ but it's definitely more intuitive to posting then comicpress is.

Sure, sounds good, I'll e-mail you the information in a sec.
And like I said in the post, charge me for your time working on this, I'm being completely distracting on something that might have been entirely easy to get around.

Unfortunately your friends CSS doesn't really mix with the new update very well and it would probably be better if we started from a clean version and just added these colors into it in a blank child theme. I can do this for you if you like, would just need your login information emailed to me so I can jump in and clean it all up. (and FTP information so I can find where that hack is coming from) -- that is, if you want my assistance on it.

-Yeah, originally I did what you told me and went to the configuration and set the defaults back again and the comic showed up. As for setting back the menu bar, that was all my friends work, editing the files using his own layout/desing of his site. I have no idea how it went, he did everything and I barely comprehend it.
I did try going like that and making my own configuration for the menu, but it kept spreding on the side instead of lining up on the menu bar. My friend was confused as well and he couldn't figure it out.

-As for the symbols, it's a hack then. I deactivated all the plug ins, checked the website and they were still there. Eneabled them again and they are still there.

Yeah, that's how it used to look like. And it's okay, this current dummy layout is more accordingly with I had in mind to re-build the design of the website. I totally agree with you, I wasn't fond of it either at all.

Is this the look of your old site?

If it is, we can steal the CSS file information from it and put it back if you like. .. not really fond of it though

Whenever ComicPress get's updated on the WordPress repository it notifies each person using the theme if they want to upgrade to it. When the end user clicks the update this is what happens. 1) It REMOVES your current theme you have (deletes it rather) then 2) Replaces it with the updated version. 3) The configuration values for the comic and blog categories in the comicpress manager -> config are set to defaults since they are part of the theme files, so you set them again in the config.

So, at this point you probably edited the files, for the look of your site in the main theme, the one that got updated is why you lost everything. There are 2 ways to make sure that doesn't happen on updates. 1) Using a child theme. 2) Using Jetpack's 'Edit CSS' function.

A Child theme is a sub-theme to the main theme (which is comicpress) the child theme resides in a separate directory and retains all of the look and 'feel' of the site. Since it is in a different directory then the main theme it doesn't get lost when you update the main theme.

The menubar is controlled with the dashboard -> appearance -> menus .. go set a menu and use the drop down in the upper left to decide which menubar position it goes in then click save.

The random letters and symbols - no idea, it could be something with one of your plugins or a hack. Disable all plugins one at a time until it goes away - if all plugins are disabled and it is still there, you know that it's a hack and we need to fix that.
